Conference Connections were commissioned to produce the inaugural ‘Leadership Conference’ for MDs and Senior Executives from the rail division of First Group.
Conference objectives: To recognise excellent performance, make the case for change and share best practice.
Outputs: Delegates to take away ideas and best practice in the key business areas of: people, customers, leadership and performance.
Approach: Working closely with First Group, CC’s producers devised a format for the day designed to break down barriers, create a highly interactive experience and ensure effective communication.
The day opened with a scene setter by Andrew Haines MD of the Rail Division, followed by a series of buzz sessions using Crystal wireless interactive tablets to capture delegate input. In the afternoon, teams comprising members from all of the seven rail divisions, were set the team-building task of creating a video entitled ‘Why choose First Rail in 2015?’ Teams were each given a PD170 digital video camera and styles were allocated at random ( including Star Wars, Harry Potter & Batman ).
Guest speaker, Post Office supremo Alan Leighton did some straight talking on his approach to management, placing emphasis on getting to know the customer, the staff and realising issues on the ground. His no nonsense, hands-on approach was ideal for the conference and very well received.
Conference Connections edited the video footage on site using two laptop based Avid Dv-express edit suites and after dinner a screening of the seven short videos was followed by an Oscar style awards ceremony. Delegate feedback forms indicated a very high satisfaction level. The client commented that the “Conference Connections team were brilliant”.
Non-exec Director of First Group, Sir Chay Blyth was a delegate and in a letter of thanks he wrote that the conference was a “great success…it was all done in such a great professional manner and in such a relaxing and fun way.”
